Draft, pending review by a UK solicitor before launch.

Terms of use

The rules for using The Teacher Insider, in plain English. By using the site, you agree to them.

1. Who we are

The Teacher Insider is run by [company name to be added before launch], a company registered in England and Wales (number [company number to be added before launch]), registered office [registered address to be added before launch]. Contact: [email to be added before launch].

2. Who can use the site

The site is for adults: you must be 18 or over to post anything. It's written for teachers and other staff working in, or thinking of working in, international schools.

3. What the site is, and isn't

  • Reviews, questions and answers are opinions of the individual teachers who wrote them, not of The Teacher Insider. We read them before publishing, but we can't check that everything in them is true.
  • Figures are a guide. Salary ranges, published packages, living costs and Offer Check results come from teachers' reports and public sources, can be incomplete or out of date, and are estimates. Always confirm the details of any offer in writing with the school.
  • Nothing here is advice. It isn't legal, financial, tax, immigration or career advice. Get professional advice for decisions that depend on it.

4. Posting reviews, questions and answers

When you post anything, you promise that:

  • it's about your own, first-hand experience, and it's honest;
  • it follows our guidelines: no names or details that identify a person, no accusations of crimes, no confidential documents, no contact details;
  • you're not writing for, or against, a school you have a connection with other than working there, and no one is paying or rewarding you to write it;
  • it doesn't break any agreement you've made, such as a confidentiality clause in your contract, or the law where you live.

You're responsible for what you write. Some countries treat criticism of an employer as a crime, even when it's true. We never publish your name, but we can't protect you from the laws of the country you live in.

A person reads every post before it's published. We publish it as written or decline it; we don't rewrite it. We can decline or remove any post that breaks these terms or the guidelines, or after a complaint.

After posting you're shown a removal code, once. With it, you can take your post down yourself at any time. We only keep a scrambled version of the code, so we can't recover it if you lose it.

5. Your content and our licence to use it

You keep ownership of what you write. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to publish it on the site without your name, to show it in summaries and averages, and to use the figures you share in combined, anonymous statistics. The licence ends when your post is removed, except for statistics already combined with others.

You can ask us to remove your post at any time: use the Report link on it and choose "I wrote it and want it removed", or contact us with the school and roughly when you posted.

6. Free Pro for sharing a package

Teachers who share their current package and leave an email get 3 months of Pro free, once per calendar year, after the package has been checked. Pro isn't available yet: we'll email you once when it launches. It's a thank-you for the package figures only. We never reward reviews, questions or answers, and nothing depends on what you write about a school. We may withhold the reward if a package appears not to be genuine.

7. How we protect users from illegal content

  • Checked before publishing. A person reads every review, question and answer before it appears, against our guidelines. Nothing is published automatically.
  • Automatic checks. Links, email addresses and phone numbers are blocked. Simple word checks flag posts that may name a person, make a serious allegation or contain strong language, so the moderator reads them with extra care. These checks only help a person decide; they never decide on their own.
  • Reporting. Every post has a Report link. We aim to act on reports of illegal content within 48 hours, and we remove illegal content as soon as we're aware of it.
  • Complaints and appeals. You can complain about a post, about how we handled a report, or about a decision to decline or remove your post. How, and how quickly, is on our complaints page.
  • Serious crimes. We report content that suggests a risk to someone's life or safety, or the abuse of a child, to the police.

8. Things you mustn't do

  • Post fake reviews, or reviews written by or for a school, a recruiter or a competitor. In the UK this is illegal.
  • Try to find out who wrote a review, question or answer, or encourage others to.
  • Harass, threaten or intimidate anyone, including schools and other teachers.
  • Copy the site's content or data in bulk, or use automated tools (scrapers, bots) to collect it.
  • Try to get around Pro, break the site's security, or overload it.

9. Complaints and schools

Anyone, including a school, can report a post they believe is untrue, unfair or unlawful. Schools can't pay to remove or change reviews. How we deal with reports, and how quickly, is set out on our complaints page.

10. Our responsibility to you

We work hard to keep the site accurate and available, but we provide it "as is". We aren't responsible for decisions you make based on what you read here, for what other people post, or for losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited, such as for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and nothing affects your legal rights as a consumer.

11. Paid services

Pro and the Offer Check aren't on sale yet. Before they are, we'll publish the terms that apply to them, including your right to cancel.

12. Changes and the law that applies

We may update these terms; the date below shows the latest version, and we'll highlight important changes on the site. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
